Builder by Night, Analyst by Day

Spike Foundry is built in the margins: business analyst by day, builder by night, turning real work friction into useful notes, scripts, and systems.

A realistic cork-board Spike Foundry hero split between day analyst notes and night builder notes
Same desk, two modes: analyst by day, builder by night.

Spike Foundry is built in the margins: after work, after bedtime, after the day has already asked for enough.

I am not writing this from a mountaintop.

I am writing it from the middle of a working life.

By day, I work around systems, requirements, data, processes, and the small frictions that make a normal job harder than it needs to be. By night, I build things. Some are useful. Some are experiments. Some are just a way to understand a problem by making something with my hands.

Spike Foundry is where those two lives meet.

Not a Guru Story

This is not a story about having everything figured out.

It is closer to the opposite.

I have worked the kinds of jobs that teach you how people actually move through the day. Pizza rushes. Espresso bars. Call queues. IT fires. Data rows. Meetings where the real issue is hiding behind the polite one.

That kind of work changes what you respect.

You start respecting the checklist that prevents a mistake when everyone is tired.

You start respecting the script that helps somebody say the uncomfortable thing without making it worse.

You start respecting the system that works even when the person who normally saves the day is out sick.

You start respecting useful over impressive.

The Pattern

A lot of the problems I care about look small from the outside.

A text someone cannot send.

A process nobody owns.

A file that keeps getting lost.

A meeting that produces more fog than decisions.

A person who knows what they mean, but cannot get it into words under pressure.

Small problems are not always small when you are the one stuck inside them.

That is the pattern behind Spike Foundry: practical help for the moments where life gets heavier than it looks.

Why “The Operator”

I use The Operator here because the work matters more than a personal brand.

The internet already has enough people trying to become the product.

I would rather make the useful thing, write the field note, share the script, explain the system, and keep moving.

There will be personal context here because context matters. You will see pieces of the life behind the work: business analysis, IT lessons, building after hours, new dad energy, the strange discipline of making something while the house is finally quiet.

But the center is not performance.

The center is usefulness.

Where Vervo Fits

Vervo is one project from this workshop.

It exists because texting can become a weird pressure chamber. People often do not need a lecture. They need a few better options, enough clarity to choose one, and permission not to turn every reply into a courtroom brief.

But Spike Foundry is not only about Vervo.

It is about communication friction, work systems, tiny scripts, practical resources, and the kind of thinking that helps a person move from stuck to next.

What This Place Is For

This site will hold a few kinds of files:

  • The Board: observations and field notes about communication, work, and everyday friction.
  • The Job: lessons from systems, IT, business analysis, and the quiet mechanics of work.
  • The Kit: checklists, templates, and practical tools.
  • The File: origin notes and behind-the-scenes thinking.
  • Scripts Not Subscriptions: small resources that solve one problem without pretending to be a lifestyle.

That is the promise.

No guru costume. No fake certainty. No hard paywall around the useful part.

Just notes, scripts, and systems from someone still doing the work.
